Textbook Theft Ring Busted in Algiers: Seven Arrested

Algiers, Algeria – Authorities in Algiers have dismantled a criminal network responsible for the theft of thousands of school textbooks. The operation, announced by the Algiers Security Services on Tuesday, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals employed within a state-owned printing company.

The arrests followed a formal complaint filed by the printing company, alleging the large-scale theft of textbooks from its warehouses. This incident marks one of the most significant cases of educational material theft reported this year.

Following the complaint, the Judicial Police Unit of the Dararia Administrative District launched a thorough investigation under the supervision of the relevant Public Prosecutor. The investigation focused on identifying and apprehending those responsible for the systematic theft.

The investigation led to the identification and arrest of the seven employees suspected of involvement in the textbook theft. During the operation, authorities successfully recovered 2,560 stolen textbooks. These books were reportedly pilfered from the printing company in a well-organized manner.

The seven arrested individuals have been presented before the Public Prosecutor’s office for further legal proceedings. Investigations are ongoing to determine if other individuals were involved in or benefited from the theft operation. Authorities are working to ascertain the full extent of the network and recover any remaining stolen textbooks.
