London, UK – Algeria has affirmed its position as a reliable global partner in securing strategic minerals during London Mining Week, held from December 1st to 4th, 2025. The event, themed “Securing Minerals and Resources… Enabling the Future,” saw strong Algerian participation.
Representing Algeria was the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Karima Bekir-Tafer, who engaged with ministers, experts, and investors from leading mining nations. Discussions centered on sustainable development and innovation within the sector.
Sessions addressed critical topics including global supply chains for vital minerals, sustainable investment opportunities in Algeria, and the crucial role of strategic minerals in supporting the energy transition and the green economy. The Secretary of State presented a detailed overview of Algeria’s national roadmap for developing its mining sector. Key areas of focus include the exploitation of rare earth elements, promoting local processing, advancing geological research, and undertaking structural projects to enhance the added value of industries linked to mineral resources.
Bekir-Tafer emphasized that Algeria’s diverse mineral resources, coupled with robust legal and regulatory reforms, position the nation to significantly contribute to the global supply of strategic minerals essential for modern technologies and a low-carbon economy. She underscored Algeria’s commitment to deepening international cooperation in the mining sector through technical partnerships, training initiatives, and responsible investment, all in accordance with the new mining law, which strengthens governance and improves the investment climate.
