Heavy snowfall has led to the closure of several national roads in the Bouira and Tizi Ouzou provinces, particularly in mountainous areas affected by recent severe weather conditions. The National Gendarmerie announced the road closures, citing significant snow accumulation as the primary cause.
According to the Gendarmerie’s communication department, the affected routes primarily connect the two provinces. In Bouira province, National Road 33 is closed between Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, specifically in the areas of Tikjda in the Asnam municipality and Akoukar in the Bechloul municipality. The heavy snow has made travel impossible.
Similarly, in Tizi Ouzou province, National Road 33 is closed in the section connecting to Bouira, near Asoul in the Ait Boumahdi municipality, due to snow accumulation. Furthermore, National Road 15 is impassable at the Tirourda pass in the Ifrahounane municipality, as continuous snowfall has resulted in significant snowdrifts.
The National Gendarmerie has stated that all other roads in the two provinces remain open to traffic. However, drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, especially in higher elevations, where temperatures are significantly low and snowfall is ongoing. Motorists should be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions.
