QUNEITRA, DZWatch – Israeli forces conducted multiple incursions into the Quneitra region of southwestern Syria on Wednesday, according to Syrian authorities. The move comes despite recent calls for de-escalation from Washington.
Syrian state news agency SANA reported that an Israeli patrol crossed from the Adnaniyah point into the southern Quneitra countryside. The patrol established a temporary checkpoint in the village of Umm Azam, located at a junction leading to the villages of Al-Mushairfa, Al-Saeeda, and Ruwayhinah.
Earlier on Wednesday, local sources reported that an Israeli drone targeted the Tal Bat al-Ward area near the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside with three missiles, impacting open ground and causing no casualties.
Last Friday, an Israeli patrol entered the town of Beit Jinn, resulting in an armed clash with local residents. The confrontation reportedly left six Israeli soldiers injured, including three officers. Following the clash, Israel allegedly retaliated with an airstrike that resulted in the deaths of 13 people, including women and children, and injured approximately 25 others.
These actions follow recent calls for restraint. Last Monday, former US President Donald Trump urged Israel to maintain a “strong and genuine dialogue” with Damascus and to ensure that “nothing happens that would interfere with Syria’s development into a prosperous nation.”
In recent months, there have been reports of meetings between Israeli and Syrian officials aimed at reaching security arrangements to ensure Tel Aviv’s withdrawal from the Syrian buffer zone occupied in December 2024.
Despite the Syrian government not posing an immediate threat, Israel continues to conduct ground incursions and airstrikes, resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of Syrian military sites, vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.
