Algerian Envoy Attends UN Security Council Meeting in Damascus

Damascus, Syria – The Syrian President, Ahmed al-Share, received a delegation of members from the United Nations Security Council at the People’s Palace today, marking a significant diplomatic visit to the country. The meeting, held on Thursday, included representatives from all 15 member states of the Security Council.

Among the attendees was the Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Ben Jama. This visit coincides with the first anniversary of the liberation, adding a symbolic dimension to the diplomatic engagement.

The Security Council delegation arrived earlier in the day at the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing in the Damascus countryside. The delegation includes high-ranking diplomats such as US Ambassador Mike Waltz, British Ambassador Barbara Woodward, French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya, and Chinese Ambassador Hu Fu Kong.

Also present were ambassadors from Somalia, Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Panama, South Korea, and Sierra Leone, highlighting the diverse representation within the Security Council.

President al-Share was joined by several ministers from the Syrian government during the reception. This visit signals a potential shift in international engagement with Syria, offering a platform for dialogue and addressing key issues facing the nation.
