Israeli Forces Target Southern Syria with Artillery Fire

Israeli military forces reportedly targeted areas in the southern Syrian governorates of Daraa and Quneitra with artillery fire on Thursday evening. The reported strikes mark the latest in a series of incidents raising concerns about escalating tensions in the region.

According to reports, the southern Quneitra countryside and the outskirts of the town of Kuya in western rural Daraa were hit by artillery shells. Details regarding the extent of damage or casualties remain unclear.

The reports further indicated alleged incursions by Israeli military vehicles into Syrian territory. A patrol consisting of three vehicles reportedly entered the area near the Al-Mantara Dam in the Quneitra countryside. A separate patrol, also composed of three vehicles, allegedly positioned itself near the entrance of the village of Al-Samdaniyah Al-Gharbiyah, establishing a checkpoint to inspect traffic heading towards the villages of Al-Rawadi and Al-Ajraf.

These incidents occur amidst ongoing regional and international calls for Israel to respect Syrian sovereignty and adhere to international law. Concerns have been repeatedly voiced regarding the potential for such actions to further destabilize an already volatile region.

The Israeli military has yet to issue an official statement regarding these specific incidents. However, Israel has previously cited security concerns, including the presence of groups allegedly linked to Hezbollah, as justification for military actions within Syrian territory. Damascus has consistently condemned these actions as violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
