DZWatch Exclusive – Several provinces in Algeria are bracing for strong winds and sandstorms as the National Meteorology Office issued an orange alert warning of severe weather conditions. The advisory, effective from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, covers eight provinces across the country.
The affected regions include Tiaret, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, M’Sila, western Batna, Biskra, and Ouled Djellal. Forecasters predict wind speeds will range between 60 and 70 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially exceeding 80 kilometers per hour in certain areas. The winds are expected to blow from a north-westerly direction throughout the duration of the alert.
Authorities are urging residents, especially those in exposed areas and those using roadways, to exercise extreme caution. Reduced visibility due to blowing sand poses a significant risk, and individuals are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
The National Meteorology Office continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed. Residents in the affected provinces are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts and heed the warnings issued by local authorities. This weather event highlights the increasing need for preparedness and awareness in the face of changing climatic conditions.
