Ramallah – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates expressed its appreciation Friday for the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of five resolutions in favor of Palestine, including the renewal of the mandate for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The Ministry hailed the overwhelming support for the resolutions as a reaffirmation of the international community’s commitment to the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people. These resolutions, officials stated, underscore the continued relevance and importance of UNRWA’s vital work in providing essential services to Palestinian refugees across the region.
“These decisions reflect the global consensus on the justness of the Palestinian cause,” a ministry spokesperson said in a statement. “They also send a clear message of support to our people who continue to face immense challenges, especially in light of the ongoing Israeli occupation and aggression.”
The renewed mandate for UNRWA ensures the continuation of crucial aid and services, including education, healthcare, and social support, for millions of Palestinian refugees. The agency plays a critical role in stabilizing the region and providing a lifeline for a vulnerable population.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of the international community’s continued support for UNRWA and urged member states to fulfill their financial obligations to the agency. Sustained funding is essential to enable UNRWA to carry out its mandate effectively and meet the growing needs of Palestinian refugees.
The Palestinian Authority views the UN resolutions as a positive step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in the region. It reiterated its commitment to working with the international community to realize the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to self-determination and an independent state.
