US and Ukraine Hold New Talks on Peace Plan

Miami, USA – US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is meeting today with a Ukrainian delegation headed by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov to continue discussions on the proposed US peace plan for Ukraine. The talks are taking place in Miami, Florida.

American officials stated on Friday that Witkoff held productive discussions with Umerov, Ukraine’s chief negotiator, over the course of two days. Today’s meeting is a continuation of those discussions. According to sources, Ukrainian Chief of Staff General Andriy Hnatov also participated in the talks, which both sides described as ‘constructive discussions about advancing a credible path towards a lasting and just peace in Ukraine.’

In a joint statement, the US State Department indicated that Umerov affirmed Ukraine’s priority is securing a settlement that protects its independence and sovereignty, guarantees the safety of Ukrainians, and provides a stable foundation for a thriving democratic future. This meeting marks the sixth such engagement in the past two weeks.

The participants also discussed the outcomes of Witkoff and Kushner’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last week and steps that could help end the conflict. The US State Department noted that American and Ukrainian officials agreed on ‘a framework for security arrangements and discussed the deterrence capabilities needed to maintain lasting peace’ during last week’s talks.

However, the State Department added that real progress toward any agreement will depend on Russia’s willingness to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace, including steps toward de-escalation and ending the violence. The parties further discussed post-war reconstruction in Ukraine and joint US-Ukrainian economic initiatives and long-term recovery projects.
