Israeli Incursions Deepen in Southern Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria – Since December 8, 2024, Israeli military activity in southern Syria has intensified, marked by territorial incursions and reported land grabs. This activity reportedly began following the collapse of the previous Syrian regime, with Israel allegedly occupying the buffer zone and Jabal al-Sheikh (Mount Hermon).

Reports indicate that Israeli officials have declared the dissolution of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Following the alleged occupation of the buffer zone, Israeli forces have reportedly expanded their presence beyond this area, establishing control over regions such as Jabal al-Sheikh and constructing military outposts both within and outside the designated buffer zone.

The Israeli military has also been accused of conducting frequent incursions into the rural areas of Quneitra, Daraa, and Rif Dimashq provinces. The most recent reported incursion occurred in the western al-Krum area, near the town of Beit Jann in Rif Dimashq.

The increased military presence and alleged territorial violations have raised concerns about regional stability and the potential for further escalation. The long-term implications of these actions remain unclear as tensions continue to rise in the already volatile region.

DZWatch continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.
