As part of the ongoing Algerian-Russian military cooperation program, the Russian Baltic Fleet corvette ‘BOIKII’ arrived in Algiers port on Sunday, December 7, 2025, for a three-day stopover. This visit underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening their maritime partnership.
During the ship’s stay, the mission commander and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to the commander of the Central Maritime Facade at the Algiers Naval Base. Discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise between the Algerian and Russian navies.
The visit also includes reciprocal activities between officers of the Algerian Naval Forces and the crew of the ‘BOIKII.’ These activities are designed to foster knowledge sharing and experience exchange, alongside cultural and tourist programs for the Russian crew members.
In a significant move to enhance joint operational capabilities, a joint naval exercise of the ‘PASSEX’ type will be conducted between the Algerian Naval Forces’ high-seas patrol vessel ‘El Motaasaddi’ and the Russian corvette ‘BOIKII.’ This exercise aims to improve maneuvering skills, operational coordination, and maritime communications. Furthermore, it seeks to ensure safety at sea, reflecting the high level of cooperation between the two countries in the maritime domain.
This port call and the planned exercises highlight the deepening ties between Algeria and Russia in the realm of naval defense and security, demonstrating a shared commitment to regional stability and maritime safety.
