Algiers, December 7, 2025 – The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has launched a nationwide awareness campaign focused on traffic safety and accident prevention. The initiative, which began today, carries the slogan “Together for a Winter Free of Traffic Accidents.”
According to a statement released by the DGSN, this campaign is being organized in close coordination with the National Gendarmerie. It will involve a series of awareness-raising activities specifically targeting drivers, with a particular emphasis on those operating public transportation vehicles and heavy goods vehicles.
The core objective of the campaign is to intensify and unify efforts aimed at reducing the number of traffic accidents across the country. Key messages will focus on the importance of adhering to traffic laws, avoiding excessive speed, and refraining from dangerous overtaking maneuvers. These issues are especially critical during the winter months when many regions of Algeria experience adverse weather conditions.
“We urge all drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads, especially during this winter season,” a DGSN spokesperson stated. “Our collective commitment to safe driving practices is essential to preventing accidents and protecting lives.”
The DGSN has made its toll-free numbers, 1548 and 17, as well as the official platforms of the Algerian Police, available to citizens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These resources are intended to provide support, information, and assistance related to road safety and other public safety concerns.
The campaign is expected to run throughout the winter season, with ongoing activities and initiatives designed to promote responsible driving habits and reduce the risk of traffic accidents nationwide.
