In a significant move aimed at enhancing the purchasing power of Algerian citizens, Prime Minister Ayman Ben Abdel Rahman has announced an expenditure of 2,895 billion dinars for the year 2024. This marks a 19% increase from the previous year’s budget, a decisive action indicating the government’s commitment to improving the standard of living for Algerians.

Addressing concerns of the members of the Council of the Nation, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s firm stance to bolster citizens’ purchasing capabilities. He further highlighted that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s program has already started showing tangible progress with daily achievements and positive indicators across various sectors. “The best is yet to come for Algeria, and we will settle for nothing less than the best for our nation,” the Prime Minister asserted.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to fulfilling the promises made by President Tebboune, the Prime Minister said that the administration is doubling down on its efforts to meet the aspirations of Algerians. “Our ultimate goal is to build a new, strong, secure, stable, and prosperous Algeria,” he stated.

To better manage citizens’ concerns and requests, the government is transitioning from a defensive posture to a proactive approach, according to the Prime Minister. In this regard, he announced the establishment of a digital platform under the Ministry of Relations with Parliament, which will coordinate between various ministerial sectors and the Prime Minister’s office. This move is expected to modernize government operations and increase efficiency.

In a bid to sustainably support the purchasing power and improve living standards, the government has adopted a host of economic measures. These are evident in the rising level of direct social transfers, which are slated to increase from 2,714 billion dinars in 2023 to 2,895 billion dinars in 2024. This amounts to roughly 19.17% of the state budget for 2024 and will go towards supporting essential commodities like milk, grains, oil, sugar, as well as utility connections such as electricity, gas, water, and housing programs.

Among other measures to enhance the purchasing power of citizens, the Prime Minister pointed out, is the upward revision of wages and pensions. “More than 2.8 million employees have benefitted from a salary increase over the past two years,” he disclosed.

This initiative by the Algerian government signifies a landmark effort to boost the economic wellbeing of its citizens. It is an undertaking that aligns well with the broader ambitions of the nation to secure a prosperous future for all Algerians.
