Algiers, Algeria – The Russian Navy corvette BOIKII, part of the Baltic Fleet, made a port call in Algiers earlier today for a scheduled three-day visit. The visit underscores the growing maritime cooperation between Algeria and Russia.
During the stopover, the commanding officer of the BOIKII and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to the commander of the Central Maritime Facade at the naval base in Algiers. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exchanging expertise between the Algerian and Russian navies.
As part of the program, reciprocal visits are planned between Algerian naval officers and the crew of the BOIKII. These exchanges will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences in the maritime domain. Cultural and tourist activities are also scheduled for the Russian crew members.
Furthermore, a joint maritime exercise of the ‘PASSEX’ type will be conducted at sea. The Algerian Navy’s offshore patrol vessel El Moutassadi will participate alongside the Russian corvette BOIKII. This exercise aims to enhance joint operations between the naval units of both countries, fostering the exchange of expertise in areas such as maneuvering, operational coordination, maritime communications, and maritime safety procedures.
This port visit and the subsequent joint exercise highlight the commitment of both Algeria and Russia to strengthening their naval partnership and promoting maritime security in the region.
