Over 420 Billion Dinars Allocated to Unemployment Benefits

Algiers, December 8, 2025 – The Algerian government has earmarked over 420 billion dinars for unemployment benefits, highlighting the state’s commitment to supporting its citizens during periods of joblessness. The announcement was made during the first national conference on employment, evaluation of unemployment benefit management, and job placement mediation, held in Algiers on Monday.

The Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, presided over the opening ceremony. In his address, Minister Saihi emphasized the importance the government, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, places on employment as a cornerstone of national development, a guarantee of social stability, and a constitutional right for every citizen.

Minister Saihi described the national conference as a consultative platform and a strategic milestone aimed at evaluating national employment policies and strengthening collaboration among various stakeholders, including ministerial sectors and social partners. He stressed that the unemployment benefit, coupled with training, monitoring, and guidance, allows young people to acquire the necessary skills and provides them with a safe transition period towards professional integration.

“This is a crucial step in building an organized and efficient labor market,” the Minister stated.

Furthermore, Minister Saihi revealed that in addition to the 420 billion dinars already allocated, a significant budget has been approved to accommodate the planned increase in the unemployment benefit, raising it from 15,000 to 18,000 dinars. The government aims to provide a stronger safety net for those seeking employment, ensuring they have the resources needed to actively participate in the job market and acquire valuable skills for long-term career prospects. The conference is expected to yield further insights and strategies for optimizing employment policies and supporting job seekers across the nation.
