In a notable development, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria has opted not to attend the upcoming “Peace Summit” in Cairo, as conveyed by a reliable source to L’Expression on Friday. This decision comes in response to an invitation extended by his counterpart, President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

President Tebboune, while expressing gratitude for the invitation, cited the dire humanitarian situation prevailing in the Gaza Strip as the basis for his refusal to participate. Gaza has been under Israeli blockade, enduring a series of criminal attacks and aggressions against our Palestinian brothers and sisters, all of which have gone largely unpunished.

The same source highlighted President Tebboune’s emphatic stance against the application of double standards in international politics when it comes to the Palestinian cause. He reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, a sentiment shared by both the government and the Algerian populace.

This principled decision by President Tebboune underscores the commitment of Algeria to champion the rights and well-being of the Palestinian people during these challenging times.
