Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Southern Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – The Algerian Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather warning for several southern provinces, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and significant rainfall throughout the day. Citizens and travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution.

The alert, issued early Tuesday, indicates that the unstable weather conditions will persist from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM local time. The affected areas are expected to experience substantial rainfall accompanied by intense thunder and lightning.

Specifically, the provinces of Illizi and In Salah are under the highest level of alert. Forecasters predict rapid and potentially dangerous weather changes in these regions. There is a heightened risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and wadis. Travel is expected to be difficult, especially across desert roads which are known to be vulnerable to rapid inundation following heavy rainfall.

Authorities are advising residents to stay informed about weather updates and to avoid unnecessary travel during the period of the storm. Motorists are cautioned to reduce speed, increase following distance, and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Residents in flood-prone areas should take necessary precautions to protect their property and ensure their safety.
