Algiers, December 9, 2025 – National Gendarmerie forces in Algiers have dismantled a criminal gang following the circulation of disturbing videos on social media depicting the kidnapping and assault of individuals. The gang members are accused of violent attacks and threats with bladed weapons.
According to a statement released by the Gendarmerie, the investigation was launched after videos surfaced showing two individuals abducting and torturing a young woman. The victim was subjected to severe abuse, verbal insults, and filmed without her consent in a degrading manner. A separate video depicted a man being tortured, beaten, and threatened with a knife by the same group.
These acts instilled fear and panic among residents, creating a climate of insecurity, endangering citizens’ lives, and violating privacy through social media platforms.
The Regional Brigade of the National Gendarmerie in Ain Benian immediately initiated an investigation. They conducted thorough inquiries, activated intelligence gathering, intensified investigations, and tracked the movements of the gang members, focusing on the primary suspect.
A comprehensive security plan was implemented in coordination with the Special Intervention Detachment of the National Gendarmerie in Maalma and the relevant judicial authorities. The operation involved searching and raiding nine residences belonging to the suspects.
The raids resulted in the arrest of five individuals implicated in the crimes. Authorities seized various types and sizes of bladed weapons, six small bags containing cocaine, an electronic scale, a sum of money believed to be proceeds from criminal activities, and mobile phones.
Following the completion of all legal procedures, the suspects will be presented before the competent Public Prosecutor, the statement concluded. The National Gendarmerie continues its efforts to ensure the safety and security of citizens in Algiers.
