Ghardaia Focuses on Solar Power in Agriculture

Ghardaia, Algeria – A workshop dedicated to exploring and promoting the use of solar energy in agriculture was held Tuesday in Ghardaia. The event, hosted at the Applied Research Unit for Renewable Energies (URAER), aimed to raise awareness and foster innovation in this vital sector.

The day-long workshop centered on the theme of “Enhancing Solar Energy Applications in Agriculture.” Experts and stakeholders convened to discuss the potential benefits, challenges, and practical implementation strategies for integrating solar technology into farming practices.

Participants explored a range of topics, including solar-powered irrigation systems, greenhouse climate control using solar energy, and the application of photovoltaic (PV) technology for powering agricultural machinery and equipment. The discussions also highlighted the economic advantages of transitioning to solar power, such as reduced energy costs and increased sustainability.

“The agricultural sector in Algeria, particularly in arid regions like Ghardaia, faces significant challenges related to water scarcity and energy access,” stated one of the speakers at the event. “Solar energy offers a viable and environmentally friendly solution to address these challenges and enhance agricultural productivity.”

The workshop featured presentations from researchers, industry professionals, and government representatives, providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of solar energy technology and its potential for transforming the agricultural landscape. Attendees also had the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions and network with experts in the field.

Organizers expressed optimism that the workshop would serve as a catalyst for increased adoption of solar energy solutions in the agricultural sector, contributing to a more sustainable and resilient food system in Algeria. Further initiatives and collaborations are planned to support the widespread implementation of these technologies.
