Russian Military Plane Crashes Near Moscow, Crew Killed

A Russian military transport plane, an An-22, crashed in the Ivanovo region, approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Moscow, on Tuesday. According to authorities, all crew members on board perished in the accident.

An official commission has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The commission stated that “all members of the crew who were on the plane died.” They further indicated that an investigation has been opened into a “violation of flight preparation rules.”

The Russian Ministry of Defense, in a statement, confirmed that search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site. A source within the rescue services informed the Russian news agency TASS that there were potentially seven people on board the aircraft.

TASS, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, reported that the plane crashed in an uninhabited area “during a test flight after repair work.”

Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear. Russian authorities have not yet commented on whether the incident is related to the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
