US Official: Gaza Ceasefire Talks Progress Amid Challenges

Negotiations are underway regarding the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, a US official has revealed. Speaking to DZWatch, the official emphasized that despite inherent difficulties, the talks are progressing.

The official stated that negotiations concerning the transition to the next phase are being conducted discreetly to ensure progress, acknowledging that numerous challenges, complex issues, and differing viewpoints remain. The US official highlighted that President Trump’s peace plan and the UN Security Council resolution clearly outline the disarmament of Hamas and the Israeli withdrawal as part of the second phase.

Washington anticipates the initial deployment of the international stabilization force in Gaza early next year, with the participation of one or two nations initially. Discussions are ongoing with various countries, including Arab states, regarding their potential contributions to the force. The official clarified that the international stabilization force will not be deployed in areas under Hamas control within the Gaza Strip.

Talks are currently focused on troop deployment, command structure, operational deployment planning, rules of engagement, and logistical support. The formation of a Palestinian police force comprised of Gaza residents is still in the planning stages, with the United States actively involved in related discussions.

Regarding humanitarian aid, the official noted that over 30,000 aid trucks have entered Gaza since the establishment of the coordination center on October 17th. The official acknowledged that Gaza requires additional, specific aid that has yet to be fulfilled, and efforts are underway to provide it. The coordination center is working to remove obstacles and increase both the quantity and quality of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza.

Earlier reports indicated that President Trump is pushing for the transition to the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, potentially including a further Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
