Algiers – The Algerian government convened this Tuesday, December 9, 2025, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib, to address critical issues related to digital governance, social justice, and the advancement of key strategic projects.
A central point of discussion was the draft presidential decree concerning the national data governance system. This initiative aims to establish a robust legal framework for the secure and efficient management of public data of national importance, thereby bolstering digital security and enhancing the performance of public services.
In line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives issued during the Council of Ministers meeting on November 30, 2025, the government also examined proposals for re-evaluating retirement pensions and benefits. The final version of these proposals will be presented to the upcoming Council of Ministers for approval, a move designed to strengthen purchasing power and improve the living conditions of pensioners.
Furthermore, the government received three significant presentations detailing progress in the area of digital transformation. These included a review of completed strategic digitization projects, the operational launch of the first national data center, and the ongoing development of a national database. This database is envisioned as a pivotal tool for supporting decision-making and improving coordination among public bodies.
A portion of the meeting was dedicated to monitoring the progress of major infrastructure projects. A detailed presentation was given on the advancement of the project to connect the East-West Highway to the Port of Djendjen via the El Eulma interchange in Setif province. This 110-kilometer project is considered strategic and is expected to significantly boost logistical and commercial activity in the region.
This government meeting underscores the commitment to accelerating economic and social reforms and continuing the implementation of state commitments in the areas of digitization, social justice, and the development of major infrastructure.
