Journalist Mehdi Ghazzar Released After Paris Detention

Paris, December 10, 2025 – Journalist and political analyst Mehdi Ghazzar was released this morning after being detained by French police in Paris yesterday evening.

Ghazzar, who works for the Algerian international news channel AL24 News, confirmed his release to the channel, stating that he was held for several hours before being freed earlier today.

According to reports, Ghazzar was apprehended by police near his residence in Paris on Tuesday evening. Authorities reportedly informed Ghazzar that he was listed in the ‘S file’ and a separate database of wanted individuals. These are exceptional measures typically reserved for individuals deemed to pose a serious threat to public safety.

DZWatch understands that this is not the first time Ghazzar has faced scrutiny. He was previously removed from his position at RMC radio, where he was a prominent voice on the ‘Grandes Gueules’ program, reportedly due to his views on the situation in Gaza.

The reasons for Ghazzar’s detention remain unclear. DZWatch is continuing to follow this developing story and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
