Algiers – National team coach Madjid Bouguera has lauded his players following their victory over Iraq, while simultaneously cautioning about the difficulty of the upcoming quarter-final match against the United Arab Emirates. Bouguera emphasized the UAE team’s possession of distinctive and talented players.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after the Iraq game, Bouguera stated that recovery and psychological preparation are essential elements to ensure the team’s readiness for the crucial quarter-final.
Regarding the win against Iraq and the team’s qualification as group leaders, Bouguera said, “We achieved what was required and deserved to top the group. Now, the serious work begins in the knockout stages.” He added, “We didn’t play well in the first match, but I am proud of the players’ reaction in the last two games.”
Analyzing the details of the Iraq match, he noted that the expulsion of an Iraqi player helped the team. However, he acknowledged that the Iraqi team, despite being a man down, defended effectively. “The most important thing is that we scored before the end of the first half, and after the second goal, we focused on controlling the game and managing our energy,” Bouguera explained.
Bouguera concluded by stressing the need for proper recovery before facing the UAE, highlighting that physical condition will be a decisive factor, especially with the challenge of playing a match every three days. The coach emphasized the importance of tactical discipline and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. He urged the fans to continue their unwavering support as the team aims for a place in the semi-finals.
