Algerian Army Foils Drug Smuggling, Rescues Hundreds of Migrants

Algiers – The Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) has reported a series of successful operations against organized crime and illegal migration during the period of December 3rd to 9th, 2025. The operations, conducted across the country, underscore the ANP’s commitment to national security and the fight against criminal activities.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of National Defense, army detachments apprehended 10 individuals providing support to terrorist groups during various field operations. This reflects the continued high level of security readiness and effective coordination among different units in the fight against terrorism.

In the realm of combating organized crime, joint operations with security services resulted in significant achievements. Authorities arrested 59 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 26.15 tons of treated cannabis across the western borders. Additionally, 19 kilograms of cocaine and 455,658 psychotropic tablets were seized.

Furthermore, 276 individuals were apprehended, and authorities confiscated 28 vehicles, 299 generators, 221 pressure hammers, and 3 metal detectors. Quantities of raw gold and equipment used in illegal mining were also seized.

In separate operations, 15 more individuals were arrested, and a Kalashnikov assault rifle and 5 hunting rifles were seized, along with 6,570 liters of fuel and 7.5 tons of food intended for smuggling and speculation. These operations highlight the army’s dedication to preventing illicit trade and ensuring the stability of the national economy.

In the fight against illegal immigration, the Coast Guard successfully thwarted several attempts at irregular migration, rescuing 392 individuals aboard traditional boats. Moreover, 351 illegal immigrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the national territory.
