Tebessa, Algeria – A young man was apprehended on December 8, 2025, while attempting to illegally enter Algeria. According to a statement released by the Public Prosecutor of the Tebessa Court, the individual, identified as (Sh. A), was caught crossing the border from a neighboring country at approximately 9:00 PM, outside of designated border crossing points.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had previously received a travel grant of 750 Euros. Authorities believe he attempted the illegal crossing to circumvent legal requirements associated with the grant, specifically the mandated duration of stay outside the country. A search of the individual uncovered 700 Euros in foreign currency.
On December 10, 2025, the accused was presented before the Public Prosecutor. He faces charges of illegal entry into Algerian territory and violation of currency exchange and capital movement regulations. These charges fall under Article 175 bis 1 of the Penal Code and Articles 07 and 01 bis of Order 22/96, as amended, pertaining to combating offenses against currency exchange legislation and capital movement.
Following his appearance before the judge, the suspect was ordered to be held in pre-trial detention. The case has been adjourned to a later date. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to enforce border security and regulations related to financial grants and currency control.
