Georges Kordahi Visits Grand Mosque of Algiers

Algiers, Algeria – Former Lebanese Minister and prominent media figure Georges Kordahi visited the Grand Mosque of Algiers on Thursday, December 11, 2025. He was received by Sheikh Muhammad al-Ma’mun al-Qasimi al-Hassani, the Dean of the Mosque.

The meeting provided an opportunity for discussions on the crucial role of media in fostering societal awareness and reinforcing authentic values. The Dean emphasized the sensitivity of the media’s influence in shaping public opinion, stating that “the word is a heavy trust” that should not be manipulated, especially given the rapid technological advancements and the spread of misleading content.

Sheikh al-Qasimi warned against the dangers of images and messages that promote foreign values, distant from the society’s identity. He urged media professionals to use their abilities to spread goodness, correct paths, and protect collective awareness. He also provided an overview of the Grand Mosque of Algiers, highlighting the integration between its mosque space, the Museum of Islamic Civilization, the Research Center for Religious Sciences and Inter-civilizational Dialogue, and the National Higher School of Islamic Sciences “Dar al-Quran,” which is considered one of the mosque’s most important arms in training scholars and researchers.

For his part, Georges Kordahi expressed his deep appreciation for this distinguished architectural and scientific edifice, praising Algeria’s historical and cultural role in promoting dialogue between cultures. He expressed his hope that “Dar al-Quran” would produce a generation of enlightened scholars who combine deep knowledge and wisdom, following in the footsteps of great figures of Islamic civilization such as Ibn Sina. He added that Algeria is qualified to be a beacon of light in the path of convergence and dialogue between peoples.
