Mansouri Leads Key Meeting on African Peer Review Mechanism

Algiers – Salma Bekhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, chaired the meeting of the Focal Points Committee for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) this Thursday. The meeting was held via video conference.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, this meeting was a “pivotal moment” in preparation for the upcoming Forum of Heads of State and Government of the APRM. This forum is scheduled for February 2026 and will be held under the presidency of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Forum.

The February forum will also see the transfer of the APRM chairmanship from Algeria to the Republic of Uganda, solidifying the principle of continuity in leading continental efforts to promote governance and enhance coordination among member states.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the progress made in APRM programs, considered reports from the Continental Secretariat, and discussed issues related to the development of governance tools.

Furthermore, the committee received a presentation on the results of the Fifth Youth Conference and the ongoing efforts to enhance youth participation in governance and development pathways across the continent, the ministry statement added.

The APRM is a self-monitoring mechanism voluntarily adopted by African Union member states.
