Algiers – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today commemorated the 65th anniversary of the December 11, 1960, demonstrations, a pivotal moment in Algeria’s struggle for independence.
A ceremony was held at the Ministry’s headquarters to mark the occasion. According to a statement released by the Ministry, the event was overseen by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib. He was accompanied by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Salama Bakhta Mansouri.
The commemoration saw the participation of representatives from the Ministry’s office for veterans and rights holders, as well as various ministry officials and staff. The December 11, 1960, demonstrations represent a watershed moment in Algeria’s history, marking a significant escalation in the popular movement against French colonial rule.
