Algiers, December 12, 2025 – Algeria has been elected Vice-President of the upcoming 21st session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, scheduled for 2026. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the decision was made during the 20th ordinary session of the Committee held in New Delhi today, Friday, December 12, 2025. The 21st session will take place in Xiamen, People’s Republic of China, from November 30th to December 5th, 2026.
The Intergovernmental Committee is the legal body responsible for the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its mandate includes overseeing the implementation of the Convention and evaluating nomination files for inscription on the World Heritage lists.
