DZWatch Exclusive: Heavy snowfall has led to road closures in several regions, disrupting travel and impacting commuters. The National Gendarmerie has issued advisories regarding affected routes, urging caution and advising against unnecessary travel.
According to information released on the ‘My Road’ Facebook page, the National Route 33, specifically the stretch connecting the provinces of Bouira and Tizi Ouzou, is currently impassable. The most affected areas include the region of Tikjda in the municipality of El Asnam, and Akouker in the municipality of Bechloul. The accumulation of snow has made driving conditions hazardous, necessitating the closure for public safety.
Furthermore, National Route 33, linking Tizi Ouzou and Bouira, is also closed at the Assoul area within the municipality of Ait Boumahdi due to significant snow accumulation. Authorities are working to clear the roads, but the reopening time remains uncertain due to the ongoing weather conditions.
While these specific sections are closed, the National Gendarmerie reports that other roads in the region remain open to traffic. However, drivers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and ensure their vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before embarking on any journeys and to heed the advice of local authorities. The safety of all road users is paramount during this period of inclement weather.
