Civil Protection units across Algeria responded to 6,120 incidents between December 11th and 13th, 2025, according to an official statement. This equates to an intervention approximately every 28 seconds.
The interventions encompassed a wide range of emergencies, including medical evacuations, traffic accidents, domestic incidents, fire suppression, and support for security services. A significant portion of the activity involved 3,848 medical evacuations and 801 miscellaneous operations triggered by distress calls from citizens. Teams addressed each situation with utmost professionalism.
Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units responded to 343 incidents. These unfortunately resulted in 13 fatalities and 392 injuries of varying severity. Injured individuals received on-site care before being transported to local hospitals. One of the most serious accidents occurred in Laghouat, where one person died and two others were injured after a vehicle veered off National Road 129 in the municipality of Tadjrouna, Ain Madhi district.
Field paramedics also provided medical assistance to 23 individuals who suffered carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty water heaters and heating appliances in their homes. These incidents occurred in Oum El Bouaghi (5 people), Naama (9 people), Blida (5 people), and Relizane (4 people). Tragically, two fatalities resulted from carbon monoxide inhalation. An 87-year-old woman died in Tiaret, in her home in the municipality of Mahdia, and a 47-year-old man died in Blida, in the municipality of Soumaa.
Firefighters tackled three urban and industrial fires in Algiers, Batna, and Tizi Ouzou. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Crews successfully contained the fires and prevented them from spreading to surrounding areas.
Other tragic incidents included the recovery of two deceased children, both aged 7, following a wall collapse in Adrar, in the municipality of In Zghmir, and the recovery of a deceased 5-year-old child in Tissemsilt after being struck by a falling stone in Douar El Halaik, in the municipality of Bouanane.
In Tizi Ouzou, paramedics provided first aid to two people injured in a butane gas cylinder explosion inside a home in the municipality of Chemini. They were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
These operations underscore the Civil Protection’s unwavering commitment to providing emergency intervention in all situations, ensuring the safety of citizens and the protection of property.
