Algiers – The Ministry of National Defence has issued a strong statement refuting recent allegations circulating in certain media outlets regarding the alleged creation and deployment of Algerian mercenary units operating in the Sahel region.
The statement, released earlier today, condemned what it described as “baseless fabrications and outright lies” aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the People’s National Army and Algeria’s image both regionally and internationally. The Ministry accused specific media outlets and websites, known for their biased agendas, of promoting false narratives and poorly constructed scenarios concocted by their own imaginations and those of their patrons.
“These outlets are peddling disinformation and unfounded accusations,” the statement read, asserting that these actions serve malicious agendas orchestrated by entities hostile to Algeria. These entities, the Ministry claims, harbor deep-seated resentment and are engaged in desperate attempts to destabilize the country, discredit its institutions, and manipulate public opinion.
The Ministry emphasized that such falsehoods are easily discernible to a discerning public. It firmly stated that the People’s National Army, a successor to the National Liberation Army, operates strictly within the framework of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic. Its actions are aligned with Algeria’s unwavering principles of good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of nations, non-interference in internal affairs, and a preference for dialogue and negotiation in resolving conflicts.
Algeria has consistently advocated for peace and security on international and regional platforms, particularly concerning the Sahel region. The Ministry reiterated Algeria’s commitment to international law and its tireless diplomatic efforts to restore stability in the Sahel through peaceful solutions and the absolute rejection of armed conflict.
The statement concluded by emphasizing Algeria’s integral connection to the Sahel region, sharing its destiny and interests. It affirmed that Algeria would never be a party to destabilizing the region. Instead, Algeria remains committed to contributing to the economic development and security of the Sahel through peaceful means.
