Agreements Signed to Boost Environmental Research in Algeria

Algiers, Algeria – Two significant agreements were signed this Saturday in Algiers, forging a collaborative partnership between the sectors of Environment and Quality of Life, and Higher Education and Scientific Research. The aim is to support and guide students in their graduation projects, Master’s theses, and doctoral dissertations, focusing on addressing environmental issues and developing scientific solutions.

The signing ceremony took place during a field visit by the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, Kouther Krikou, and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Bedari, to the Sidi Abdallah administrative district (west of Algiers). This visit was part of an effort to monitor classified institutions’ compliance with environmental regulations. The Delegate Wali of the district, Abdelmoumen Jamal Ben Haddou, along with several local and security officials, were also present.

At the Higher National School of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the school’s director, Abdelhakim Benchatara, signed two agreements. The signatories included the Director-General of the National Observatory for Environment and Sustainable Development, Karim Aerrab, and the Director-General of the National Institute for Environmental Training, Hayat Achour, under the supervision of the two ministers.

The first agreement focuses on developing activities in research, training, innovation, and technology transfer within the fields of environment, green energy, and nanomaterials. The second agreement aims to provide expertise in environmental fields, pollution analysis standards, and national environmental legislation, according to provided explanations.

During the event, an environmental incubator was launched at the school to support young people in finding innovative solutions to environmental pollution. Additionally, a branch of the National Agency for Microcredit Management (ANGEM) was inaugurated at the institution, marking the first of its kind nationally. This initiative aims to bring these organizations closer to students and project holders.

A presentation was given on the school’s activities and specializations, followed by a visit to an exhibition dedicated to startup companies and scientific research centers, as well as the school’s laboratories.

During a visit to the “Kindi” pharmaceutical manufacturing company, the ministers and their accompanying delegation listened to a presentation on the company’s activities and future projects, emphasizing its commitment to environmental standards and progress in transitioning to renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, rational management of natural resources, and waste management policies within the framework of a circular economy.

Explanations were also provided on the most important aspects of the company’s operations.
