Russia Mediates for the Release of Foreign Detainees Held by Hamas

Russian Foreign Ministry announces diplomatic engagement with a high-ranking Hamas delegation in Moscow to discuss the release of foreign detainees in Gaza and the safe evacuation of Russian citizens.


In a significant development, the Russian Foreign Ministry revealed today that discussions have been underway with a leading delegation from the Palestinian movement Hamas in Moscow. The talks primarily focused on the release of foreign detainees held in the Gaza Strip and the safe evacuation of Russian and other foreign nationals from the volatile region.

Member of the Hamas Political Bureau, Musa Abu Marzook, is currently in Moscow and engaged in negotiations aimed at amplifying Russian efforts to secure the release of foreign detainees in Gaza. The dialogue also touched upon issues relating to the safe exit of Russian citizens, as well as other foreign nationals, from the strife-ridden area of Gaza.

Russia reaffirmed its enduring position in line with international consensus, underlining its support for resolutions passed by both the UN Security Council and General Assembly. These resolutions mandate the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, encompassing its occupied territories and having East Jerusalem as its capital. Additionally, they highlight the need for peaceful and secure coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

Hamas, for its part, expressed deep appreciation for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The movement lauded Russia’s diplomatic endeavors aimed at halting hostilities in Gaza.

It is worth mentioning that the high-ranking Hamas delegation, led by Musa Abu Marzook, arrived in the Russian capital today to further these crucial discussions.

The diplomatic engagement signifies Russia’s commitment to play a constructive role in resolving complex international issues, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, by leveraging its unique position in the geopolitical landscape.
