Winter Break Remedial Classes Approved for Middle and High Schools

Algiers – The Ministry of National Education has formally instructed regional education directors to open middle and high schools during the upcoming winter break. The initiative aims to provide crucial pedagogical support sessions for students in the 2025/2026 academic year.

This decision is rooted in Circular No. 991, dated December 22, 2010, which outlines the system for pedagogical support specifically targeting students preparing for national exams. A model schedule for these sessions has been provided to educational institutions for adaptation and implementation.

The primary objective is to offer targeted assistance to students preparing for the Brevet d’Enseignement Moyen (BEM) and Baccalaureate exams in 2026. These support sessions aim to optimize exam preparation and enhance the students’ chances of success.

Schools are expected to open their doors during the first week of the winter holiday, enabling students to participate in various forms of pedagogical support. These options include structured lessons, supervised study sessions, and organized group revision.

Each school is required to create a specific timetable for these support activities, adhering to the guidelines established in the aforementioned circular. The organization and pedagogy of the sessions must also comply with existing regulations to ensure smooth operation.

School principals are urged to emphasize the pedagogical value of these sessions to both teachers and students. Furthermore, comprehensive information regarding the organization of these winter break support classes must be communicated to parents.

The Directorate-General for Education has stressed the importance of prioritizing this initiative and ensuring that the necessary organizational and pedagogical conditions are in place to achieve the desired outcomes for the participating students.
