Weather Alert: Severe Storms and High Winds Expected Across Algeria

Algiers, December 14, 2025 – The National Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather warning for several regions across Algeria, forecasting heavy thunderstorms, strong winds, and potential sandstorms. Residents are urged to take precautions.

A Level 2 (Orange) alert is in effect for the wilayas of Naama, Bechar, and Beni Abbes. These areas are expected to receive significant rainfall, ranging from 20 to 40 millimeters, with localized areas potentially exceeding 50 millimeters. The alert is valid from 3:00 AM Saturday to 9:00 AM Sunday.

A broader Level 1 (Yellow) alert has been issued for a large number of wilayas, cautioning residents about thunderstorms. This alert is active from 6:00 AM Sunday until 6:00 AM Monday. Wilayas under this warning include Sidi Bel Abbes, Souk Ahras, Ouargla, Tipaza, Tissemsilt, Ain Guezzam, Laghouat, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Ghardaia, Touggourt, M’Sila, Tiaret, Mila, Oum El Bouaghi, Tebessa, Guelma, Tizi Ouzou, Batna, Tindouf, Annaba, Setif, Djelfa, Illizi, Tlemcen, Constantine, Skikda, El Bayadh, El M’Ghair, Khenchela, Ain Defla, Medea, Biskra, El Tarf, Saida, Bouira, and Ouled Djellal.

Furthermore, a separate Level 1 (Yellow) alert warns of strong winds and sandstorms affecting the wilayas of El Oued, El Menia, Ain Salah, Tamanrasset, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar. This warning is in effect from 6:00 AM Sunday to 3:00 AM Monday.
