Algeria Seeks Enhanced Economic Ties with India

The Algerian Agency for Investment Promotion (AAPI) is exploring avenues to bolster economic cooperation with India, focusing on key sectors and increased Indian investment within Algeria. This initiative was highlighted during a meeting held on Sunday between the Director General of AAPI, Omar Rekkache, and the Ambassador of India to Algeria, Swati Vijay Kulkarni.

According to a statement released by AAPI, discussions centered on sectors of mutual interest, with a particular emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry and drug manufacturing. The meeting also explored the potential for expanding the footprint of Indian investments in the Algerian market.

Both parties delved into the specifics of several investment projects involving Indian companies already operating in Algeria. This included discussions with Tenshi, a global pharmaceutical leader, which has expressed interest in entering and investing in the Algerian market.

Preparations for an upcoming visit by a delegation of approximately 40 Indian companies to Algeria in January 2026 were also addressed. The delegation’s visit aims to facilitate business-to-business meetings with Algerian counterparts, fostering opportunities for partnerships and investment.

Omar Rekkache affirmed that AAPI is committed to providing all necessary resources to ensure the success of the Indian delegation’s visit, with the goal of establishing productive partnership and investment agreements. He reiterated the agency’s openness to all forms of cooperation with the Indian side.

Both parties emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation to realize promising investment projects that reflect the deep and enduring Algerian-Indian relationship. This collaboration aims to unlock new opportunities and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
