Thunderstorms Forecast for 16 Algerian Provinces

Algiers, December 14, 2025 – The National Meteorology Office has issued a severe weather alert, forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across sixteen provinces in Algeria. The advisory, released today, warns residents to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions starting tomorrow, Monday, and lasting until early Tuesday morning.

The affected provinces include areas in the southwest and southeast of the country. Specifically, the provinces of Bechar, Beni Abbes, Naama, and Tindouf are expected to receive between 20mm and 40mm of rainfall. These conditions are predicted to persist until 3:00 AM local time on Monday.

Furthermore, the meteorology office anticipates thunderstorms to develop in northern Tamanrasset, Ain Salah, northern Illizi, and Ouargla, commencing at 11:00 PM tonight and continuing until the same time on Monday. Rainfall amounts are also expected to be in the 20mm to 40mm range for these regions.

Significant rainfall is also forecast for several provinces in the east-central part of Algeria. El Oued, Touggourt, El M’Ghair, and Ouled Djellal are expected to experience rainfall between 20mm and 40mm, starting at 6:00 AM on Monday and continuing until dawn on Tuesday.

In a separate weather bulletin, the National Meteorology Office predicts thunderstorms for Biskra, Batna, Khenchela, and Tebessa. These storms are expected to begin at 9:00 AM on Monday and continue until the same time on Tuesday. Rainfall amounts in these areas are predicted to be higher, ranging from 30mm to 50mm, with some localized areas potentially exceeding 60mm.
