Cabinet Approves Pension Hikes, New Administrative Districts

Algiers – The Council of Ministers convened today, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, to address several key policy areas. Discussions centered on increasing pensions and retirement benefits, establishing two new administrative districts, and the national strategy for developing e-commerce.

Following the presentation of the agenda and a summary of the previous Council of Ministers’ decisions, the Prime Minister presented a report on government activities over the past two weeks. Subsequently, the President issued directives and instructions on the following matters:

Pension and Retirement Benefit Increases:

The Council of Ministers approved a 10% increase for retirees receiving a pension equal to or less than 20,000 Algerian dinars. A 5% increase was approved for those receiving more than 20,000 dinars. These increases follow previous adjustments to the guaranteed minimum wage.

Creation of New Administrative Districts:

The Council of Ministers approved the establishment of two new administrative districts, namely Maghnia and El Eulma.

National Strategy for E-Commerce Development:

The President emphasized that e-commerce presents a significant challenge requiring collective participation to achieve economic goals. He stressed the importance of utilizing necessary resources, particularly ensuring digital security, implementing further facilitations, and encouraging trade in this sector. He further noted that commercial transparency is the primary objective and the true benefit of digitalization and e-commerce.

General Directives:

President Tebboune ordered a halt to the demolition of illegal housing during the winter months. He stipulated the immediate suspension of mayors who resort to such actions during the winter without considering applicable Algerian laws and international norms. Governors are responsible for ensuring that such operations are conducted within established legal frameworks.

The President instructed the Ministers of Agriculture and Interior to coordinate and ensure, through various mechanisms and procedures, that farmers do not suffer losses due to the spoilage of agricultural products. This includes utilizing strategic storage to maintain price stability.
