President Tebboune Grants Full Pardon to Mohamed El Amine Belghith

Algiers, December 15, 2025 – President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has signed a presidential decree granting a full pardon to Mohamed El Amine Belghith, who was serving a final sentence. The announcement was made earlier today.

The decree, issued by the President, effectively terminates the remainder of Belghith’s sentence. This decision follows established constitutional procedures.

According to a statement released by the Presidency, the pardon is based on Articles 91 (paragraphs 7 and 8) and 182 of the Constitution. These articles grant the President the power to issue pardons and outline the necessary conditions for doing so.

Furthermore, the Presidency highlighted that the decision was made after consulting the Supreme Judicial Council, as stipulated by Article 182 of the Constitution. The Council provided its advisory opinion, which was taken into consideration before the presidential decree was issued.

The granting of a pardon is a prerogative vested in the President of the Republic and is often exercised on humanitarian grounds or in cases where it is deemed to be in the best interest of the nation. The decision to pardon Mohamed El Amine Belghith was reached after careful deliberation and adherence to constitutional guidelines.
