Asfi, Morocco – At least 21 people have died following severe flooding in the Asfi region of Morocco, local authorities have confirmed. The Atlantic coastal province was hit by torrential rains, leading to widespread inundation and significant damage.
According to a statement released by regional officials, the intense rainfall caused flash floods that swept through Asfi, located south of the capital, Rabat. The deluge resulted in dozens of homes being flooded, numerous vehicles being swept away, and widespread road closures.
“An hour of sustained heavy rainfall led to the flooding of approximately 70 homes and shops, the displacement of dozens of vehicles, and significant disruption to road networks in Asfi city and its surrounding areas,” the statement detailed.
Images circulating on social media depict powerful currents of muddy water surging through the streets of Asfi, carrying away cars and debris. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, and rescue efforts are underway to assist those affected by the disaster.
