Algeria Calls for Stronger Arab Cooperation, Palestine Support

Algiers, DZWatch – Algeria has reiterated its call for enhanced Arab cooperation and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. The nation emphasized the need for a responsible Arab approach to resolving regional crises, one that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.

Algeria advocates for prioritizing political solutions to conflicts and rejecting foreign interference in the region’s affairs. This stance reflects Algeria’s commitment to peaceful and sustainable resolutions.

Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the People’s National Assembly and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union (APU), reaffirmed Algeria’s steadfast position on the Palestinian issue. He strongly condemned the aggressive practices of the occupying forces and expressed full solidarity with the Palestinian people in their legitimate pursuit of their inalienable national rights.

Boughali highlighted the significance of holding the 40th extraordinary session of the APU’s Executive Committee. This meeting occurs as Algeria’s presidency of the Union nears its end, following two years of intensive efforts to strengthen the APU’s performance and implement key reforms. These reforms aim to enhance the efficiency and continuity of joint Arab parliamentary action at both regional and international levels.

Algeria is keen to ensure a smooth handover of the APU presidency to Saudi Arabia, guaranteeing a transparent and robust transition. This commitment aims to bolster the Union’s presence and effectiveness on the global stage, solidifying its role as a platform for Arab parliamentary coordination.

Boughali stressed the importance of developing mechanisms for Arab parliamentary action, particularly concerning the Palestinian cause. This includes formulating clear emergency clauses, building alliances with African, Asian, and Latin American parliamentary groups, and adopting an objective discourse capable of garnering broader support within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly. He also called for a review of the voting mechanisms related to these clauses.

The APU, according to Boughali, will remain a unified voice in defending the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to land, identity, and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of the Palestinian state. Algeria remains committed to fostering greater Arab unity in the face of regional challenges.
