Algerian Parties Laud President Tebboune’s Clemency Decision

Algiers, December 15, 2025 – Several Algerian political parties have voiced their support for President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s decision to grant a full pardon to Mohamed El Amine Belghith. The presidential decree effectively terminates the remainder of Belghith’s sentence.

The People’s Voice Party issued a statement emphasizing the humanitarian dimension of the President’s action. The party described the pardon as a reflection of the Algerian state’s commitment to human values and its appreciation for citizens who have served the nation through their knowledge and intellect. The statement further highlighted the President’s role as the ‘first judge’ of the country, acting within his constitutional powers on behalf of the Algerian people.

According to the People’s Voice Party, this sovereign act demonstrates the maturity of Algeria’s institutions, fostering trust between citizens and the state. They added that it promotes dialogue and reason, reinforcing the path towards building a strong, just, and independent nation.

The National Democratic Rally (RND) also welcomed President Tebboune’s decision, viewing it as a step towards de-escalation and strengthening confidence in state institutions and the judiciary. The RND believes the pardon will contribute to a more stable environment while respecting constitutional procedures and upholding the authority of the state and the independence of the judiciary.

The RND further emphasized the crucial role of elites in fostering a unified national discourse that strengthens the internal front in the face of current challenges and attempts to undermine social cohesion. The party reiterated its full support for President Tebboune’s efforts to consolidate national unity, fortify the domestic front, and advance political and institutional reforms amid regional and international challenges.
