Algiers, December 16, 2025 – The National Meteorological Office has issued a severe weather alert, forecasting significant rainfall and heavy snowfall across numerous regions of Algeria starting today. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
A special weather statement warns of locally heavy, thundery rainfall expected to impact the following provinces: Tipaza, Medea, Ain Defla, Relizane, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tissemsilt, Saida, Naama, Tiaret, Laghouat, Djelfa, El Bayadh, Chlef, Mostaganem, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Bechar, Beni Abbes, and Timimoun. The alert is in effect from 3:00 PM today until dawn tomorrow, Wednesday.
“The intensity of the rainfall could lead to localized flooding and disruptions to transportation,” a meteorological official cautioned.
Furthermore, a separate alert has been issued concerning heavy snowfall in the western highlands. The provinces of Tiaret, Laghouat, Saida, El Bayadh, and Naama are expected to experience significant snowfall starting from 6:00 PM this evening until dawn tomorrow. Motorists are particularly urged to exercise extreme caution when traveling through these areas, as road conditions may become hazardous.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise as a result of the adverse weather conditions. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and heed the advice of local officials.
