Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Algerian authorities have successfully intercepted two significant drug smuggling operations in separate regions of the country. The operations, conducted by Algerian Customs in coordination with the People’s National Army and the National Gendarmerie, resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics.
According to a statement released by the Algerian Customs, the first operation took place within the jurisdiction of the Regional Directorate of Customs in Setif. During this operation, officers discovered and seized 23.72 kilograms of processed cannabis (kif) concealed within specially constructed compartments in a commercial vehicle.
In a separate incident, authorities operating within the area of responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Customs in Bechar seized 13.88 kilograms of processed cannabis. This contraband was found hidden amidst the rugged terrain of the border region. The smugglers attempted to exploit the difficult landscape to evade detection.
In both cases, the illicit substances and the vehicles used for transportation have been confiscated. Furthermore, individuals involved in the smuggling attempts have been arrested and are currently being processed for presentation before the competent judicial authorities.
These successful operations underscore the ongoing and concerted efforts by Algerian law enforcement agencies to safeguard public health and security by combating drug trafficking. The authorities remain vigilant in their commitment to preventing the flow of illegal substances across the nation’s borders. This is part of a broader strategy to clamp down on organized crime and ensure the safety and wellbeing of Algerian citizens.
