Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Snow Expected Across Algeria

Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Several regions of Algeria are bracing for a period of significant weather instability, beginning today, Tuesday. The National Meteorological Office has issued a special weather alert, forecasting heavy thunderstorms and substantial snowfall in numerous western highlands.

The alert indicates that thunderstorms are expected to commence from 3:00 PM today and continue until dawn on Wednesday. Rainfall is predicted to be heavy in localized areas, potentially leading to the formation of significant water accumulations.

The following provinces are expected to be impacted by the severe weather: Tipaza, Medea, Ain Defla, Relizane, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tissemsilt, Saida, Naama, Tiaret, Laghouat, Djelfa, El Bayadh, Chlef, Mostaganem, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Bechar, Beni Abbes, and Timimoun.

A separate warning has been issued concerning heavy snowfall in the western highlands. This is anticipated to begin at 6:00 PM this evening and persist until dawn on Wednesday. Provinces likely to be affected by heavy snowfall include Tiaret, Laghouat, Saida, El Bayadh, and Naama.

DZWatch urges citizens, particularly drivers and residents of mountainous regions, to exercise extreme caution. Travel may be difficult due to reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions.
