Algiers, Algeria – Several regions of Algeria are bracing for severe weather conditions starting today, according to the National Meteorological Office. A significant drop in temperatures is expected to bring heavy thunderstorms and snowfall to numerous provinces.
The meteorological service issued a warning for locally significant thunderstorms across a wide swath of the country. These storms are predicted to begin this afternoon and continue into early Wednesday morning. Regions expected to be impacted include Tipaza, Medea, Ain Defla, Ghilizane, Mostaganem, Oran, Ain Temouchent, Tlemcen, Tiaret, Laghouat, Djelfa, El Bayadh, Chlef, Mascara, Sidi Bel Abbes, Tissemsilt, Saida, Naama, Bechar, Beni Abbes and Timimoun.
In addition to the thunderstorm warning, a separate alert has been issued for heavy snowfall in the western highlands. This snowfall is expected to begin this evening and last until dawn on Wednesday. The provinces specifically mentioned in this warning are Tiaret, Laghouat, Saida, El Bayadh, and Naama.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about the evolving weather situation. Authorities are urging caution on roadways and advising against unnecessary travel during periods of heavy precipitation.
