Algeria Aims to Balance Digital Innovation and Privacy

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria is poised to develop a leading national model that harmonizes digital innovation with the protection of personal privacy, particularly within the insurance sector. This announcement was made by Samir Bourhil, President of the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data, during a press briefing in Algiers on Tuesday.

Mr. Bourhil emphasized that the resources provided by the state, coupled with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, create a unique opportunity to establish a framework where technological advancement and individual privacy rights are mutually reinforcing. He stated that safeguarding personal data is becoming a cornerstone of technological progress.

“The convergence of state support and presidential vision allows us to pioneer a system where innovation thrives without compromising the fundamental right to privacy,” Mr. Bourhil explained. “Our goal is to ensure that the insurance industry, and indeed all sectors embracing digital transformation, operate within a robust ethical and legal framework that prioritizes the security and confidentiality of personal information.”

The National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data is taking a proactive approach in shaping this model. It is working closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector companies, and civil society organizations, to develop comprehensive data protection policies and guidelines.

The initiative reflects a growing global awareness of the importance of data privacy in the digital age. As Algeria continues its journey towards a more technologically advanced society, this commitment to balancing innovation and privacy will be crucial for building trust and fostering sustainable development.

This development signals a significant step towards establishing Algeria as a regional leader in responsible digital innovation, where technological advancements are aligned with the protection of fundamental rights.
