December 16, 2025 – The National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use (APRUE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly hosted the ‘Smart Energy Innovation Challenge’ awards ceremony today at the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, the Secretary-General of the Ministry emphasized the importance of the event. He stated, “This initiative underscores the fruitful collaboration between APRUE and the UNDP, reflecting the critical need to strengthen national and international partnerships in this vital sector.”
Minister Adjal highlighted the significance of innovation in smart energy efficiency, asserting that it “is no longer an option but a strategic national imperative, given the increasing challenges related to energy consumption, climate change, and the accelerated pace of digital transformation.” He further emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to supporting research and fostering partnerships between government entities, the private sector, and academic institutions to translate innovative ideas into tangible, impactful applications.
Mourad Chaabane, Director-General of APRUE, explained that the competition was designed with a holistic approach, ensuring support for all stages of innovation, from idea generation and initial modeling to field implementation through pilot projects. “This comprehensive approach aims to nurture and accelerate the development of impactful smart energy solutions tailored to Algeria’s needs,” he stated.
The top three winners in each category will receive symbolic awards and financial incentives, recognizing their innovative initiatives, local adaptability, and practical potential in the field of energy efficiency. This challenge aims to encourage and support Algerian innovators in contributing to a sustainable energy future.
